Capenhurst LOWEN house general report (revised February 1985)

1985
Capenhurst produced a low-energy-house specification (LOWEN) based on extensive research work. The specification requires high levels of insulation, double glazing, and controlled ventilation using a mechanical air supply and extract system with heat recovery in an airtight house. All can be incorporated with the minimum of changes into conventional house designs. Electricity is the only fuel supplied. Both space and water-heating equipment are designed to take electricity very largely from the off-peak tariff.
