Technical research of forging process for large cylinder bottom by 50kN die forging hammer

The cylinder bottom is an important part in the hydraulic support,but the production batch is small because of the complex shape.Therefore,it's always formed by use of the open-die forging process with insert mode.Due to equipment constraints,the cylinder bottom with more than φ320 mm has normally formed by casting technology.However,during a manufacture testing for a new support with φ400 mm cylinder bottom,the 50kN die forging hammer has been exceeded its load capacity.Since the casting has crude internal metal structure and low mechanical property,the die forging technology has been considered.After repeated analysis and researching of the open-die forging and closed die forging,the above problems have been solved ultimately by use of closed-die forging process.
