Machining method improving extrusion yield of NbTi/Cu single-core bars for superconduction

2015
The invention discloses a machining method improving the extrusion yield of NbTi/Cu single-core bars for superconduction. A Nb barrel whose length and diameter are larger than those of a NbTi alloy bar is adopted to wrap the NbTi alloy bar, the Nb barrel that wraps the NbTi alloy bar is warpped by a copper pipe, the part of the Nb barrel, which is higher than the copper pipe, is flattened and covers an end part of the NbTi alloy bar, thereby obtaining an assembled NbTi/Cu single-core ingot blank, after degassing of the assembled NbTi/Cu single-core ingot blank, front and back copper covers are additionally mounted and vacuum welding is performed, then the NbTi/Cu single-core ingot is put in hot isostatic pressure equipment for pressure-maintaining heat treatment, thereby obtaining a compact and uniform NbTi/Cu single-core ingot blank, the compact and uniform NbTi/Cu single-core ingot blank is heated and then extruded, and after extrusion is completed, areas of the NbTi/Cu single-core bar whose copper ratios are unqualified are cut, thereby obtaining a qualified NbTi/Cu single-core bar. The yield of the NbTi/Cu single-core bars produced according to the method provided by the invention is improved by 2% to 5%.
