EL TRATAMIENTO DE LOS AGRESORES SEXUALES EN PRISIÓN: PROMESAS Y DIFICULTADES DE UNA INTERVENCIÓN NECESARIA THE TREATMENT OF INCARCERATED SEX OFFENDERS: PROMISES AND DIFFICULTIES OF A NECESSARY INTERVENTION

Since 2005, the latest version of the Sexual Assault Control program from Garrido and Beneyto (1996) is being delivered in the Spanish prisons. In the present article, the relevance of this intervention is analysed, through the review of the recent publications and the clinical experience in the program. The elements included in the program are present in the literature, and are considered central to the concept of sexual assault. It is concluded that, in spite of its difficulties, the intervention with incarcerated sex offenders is necessary.
