Discourses on Nature in Madagascar, in the Wake of teny baiko

2015
This article offers a critical reading of speeches on nature in a context of domination by the West of the modalities of Malagasy environmental policies. The first part presents an outline of these policies and the survey methodology. The rest of the article is dedicated to the analysis of the discourses of diverse agents in charge of environmental management to describe nature and environment. What do the words used reveal of external influences, old and new domination – appropriated or rejected ? The analysis then focuses on how actors express their specific positioning in the social construction of nature they propose. Do speeches reflect or not distancing towards society, donors, NGOs, or the State ?
