Relação entre o perímetro da coxa e os torques máximos flexores e intensores do joelho na avaliação isocinética de alunos da EsEFEx

2004
Nowadays, aesthetic values are conquering bigger space in Brazilian society’s culture. It directly implies in bigger concern on personal healthy. Body fitness is the most visible part of it. Some questions arise from it. Would “bigger” muscles be necessarily “the strongest”? This work tries to answer this question by verifying if there is correlation between maximum torque from the muscles that extend and bend the knees and the perimeters of thigh. Knee’s maximum torque was measured by means of a isokinetic dynamometer, CIBEX NORM 1996, from Clube de Regatas Flamengo. Perimeter of thigh was corrected by subtracting skin folds. 29 volunteers, sergeants enrolled on the course of Monitor of EsEFEx 2004, were studied. The results showed significant correlation with acceptable validity, (p<0,0001 and r=0,751), between corrected perimeter of thigh (54,7 ± 4cm), and maximum torque of knee extension (237,41 ± 54Nm). We concluded that knee muscles of bigger perimeter really generate more force although correlation coefficient was not high.
