Characteristics of neutrons from Be targets bombarded with protons, deuterons and alpha particles

Abstract Thick-target yields and average energies of neutrons emitted at 0° from bombardment of Be with protons and deuterons at energies below 50 MeV and alphas at energies below 30 MeV are given. The minimum projectile energy and current needed to satisfy the requirements of neutron sources for cancer therapy are discussed.
