Correlación entre el control inhibitorio y la memoria en los adultos mayores

2015
Objective: To determine the relationship between inhibitory control and memory in older adults. Methods: We conducted a descriptive-correlational study by the Department of psychology at the University of Camaguey "Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz" (Cuba) about the relationship between inhibitory control and memory in older adults. The memory was assessed with Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-Revised HVLT-R and the complex figure of Rey; and the inhibitory control test colors and words (Stroop). The data analysis was performed using the comparison of averages, the Rho Spearman and linear regression test. Results: The sample was comprised of 73 older adults with a mean age of 72.44 years (of =8.446). There was a predominance of righthanded people, urban areas of residence and a homogeneous composition of gender. Favorable scores from the older adults may be related to schooling. We found direct correlations between the inhibitory control and sensory both verbal and visuo-spatial memory. In addition, there was a positive correlation with the highly significant visuo-spatial working memory. The degree of resistance to the interference positively correlated with verbal and visuo-spatial sensory memory. Conclusions: Aging affects performance on tasks and processes evaluated. There are significant relationships between the inhibitory control and memory patterns evaluated in older adults.
