Title of Paper: The Peer Review Process: How Often Do Blind Reviewers Agree in Their Final Recommendation?

2009
This paper undertakes exploratory research into the blind review process used by most academic conferences and academic journals. It examines the final reviewer recommendations of the peer review process for two conferences and seven journals. It analyses quantitative data from the conference reviewers and journal guest editors. The reviewers agree with each other on their final recommendation in 62% of cases. The findings provide insights for conference organisers and guest editors seeking to manage the review process more effectively, and it gives an insight into how much extra work track chairs often get as a result of reviewer disagreement.
