Optimal texture of magnetic recording media

1996
Different types of recording media for ion-beam deposited CoNi/Cr are discovered depending on the correlations between Cr[110], Cr(200) and Co[110] X-ray diffraction peaks intensities. Homogeneous Cr[110] and Cr(200) media as well as mixed media with Cr[110] and Cr(200) predominances can be separated depending on the presence of peaks and their intensities. The dependences between Cr[110], Cr(200) and H/sub c/ values are plotted and mixed media with Cr(200) predominance are found to be optimal. Maximal H/sub c/ of 2260 Oe for CoNi/Cr corresponds to this texture type where I/sub Cr(200)//I/sub Cr[110]/=2.3. This result seems to be of interest for the possibility of the control of industrial Co alloys to increase H/sub c/ value by changing the texture.
