Simulation of Hall–Petch effect in alloy 690 using crystal plasticity model considering effect of grain boundaries

2021
Abstract The effect of grain size on stress–strain curve of FCC type Ni based alloy 690 has been analyzed using crystal plasticity finite element simulations. To achieve this, grain boundaries are explicitly modeled using 3-dimensional interface elements. While electron microscopy analysis is used to provide the interface details, distinct constitutive flow parameters are assigned to grain boundaries. The results of this work show that it is possible to predict the Hall–Petch effect successfully once the grain boundaries are modeled accurately in crystal plasticity.
