Hypematremic dehydration in infancy and early childhood is a serious problem, the effective management of which requires thorough understanding of the pathophysiology of the disorder. Improper fluid therapy may bear an associated significant mortality, and may also be complicated by seizures, resulting in long-term neurologic sequelae.
