Serosal hypofibrinolysis: A cause of postoperative adhesions☆☆☆

1973
Abstract 1. 1. Fibrinolytic activator activity is present in canine and human gastrointestinal serosa and is decreased after trauma. 2. 2. Massive adhesion formation occurred when the serosal fibrinolytic activity was decreased at least 50 per cent. 3. 3. Intraperitoneal urokinase was effective in preventing adhesions in 80 per cent of the animals. 4. 4. No wound healing or anastomotic difficulties were encountered and there were no hemorrhagic complications from the intraperitoneal instillation of urokinase.
