A CIDADE E A SECA: O CAMPO DE CONCENTRAÇÃO DE 1932 E AS TRANSFORMAÇÕES URBANAS EM IPU-CE (The city and the drought: the concentration camp of 1932 and the urban transformations in Ipu-ce)

Pretendemos neste texto analisar os efeitos da seca de 1932 sobre a cidade de Ipu. Naquela ocasiao o governo do Estado empreendeu neste municipio um dos sete campos de concentracao do Ceara. O campo se constituiu numa medida assistencial e repressora que pretendeu assistir e controlar os atingidos pela seca, ao mesmo tempo em que promoveu inumeras transformacoes no espaco urbano, apropriando-se de recursos publicos e dessa mao-de-obra ociosa. O nosso objetivo e investigar essas ambiguidades que permearam a historia de Ipu nesse periodo. Utilizaremos como fontes jornais, depoimentos e algumas obras de memorialistas da cidade que escreveram sobre o tema. Palavras-chave: Cidade. Seca. Modernizacao. THE CITY AND THE DROUGHT: THE CONCENTRATION CAMP OF 1932 AND THE URBAN TRANSFORMATIONS IN IPU-CE. Abstract We intend in this text to analyze the effects of drought of 1932 on the city of Ipu. In that occasion, the government of the State undertook in this city one of the seven concentration camps of the Ceara. That field constituted an aiding and repressing measure that intended to attend and to control the victims of the drought, and at the same time it promoted innumerable transformations in the urban space, using public resources and the idle labour force. Our objective is to investigate these ambiguities that permeated the history of Ipu in this period. We used as sources periodicals, depositions and some works of citizens that had written about the subject. Key-words: City. Drought. Modernization.
