Catalyst for purification of exhaust gas of internal combustion engine

1995
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for purification of the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, which removes the harmful components included in the exhaust gases at a high rate and has excellent high-temp. heat resistance and low-temp. ignitability. SOLUTION: This catalyst contains a platinum element, refractory inorg. oxide, alkaline earth metal compd. and cerium zirconium multiple oxide as catalyst components. In such a case, the catalyst has >=2 layers of catalyst layers on a refractory three-dimensional structure. The cerium zirconium multiple oxide of 100/2 to 100/80 in the weight ratio in terms of cerium/zirconium oxide is incorporated into the inner layer of these catalyst layers and the cerium zirconium multiple oxide of 2/100 to 100/100 in the weight ratio in terms of cerium/zirconium oxide is incorporated into the outer layer of the catalyst layers, respectively.
