Hypoglycemic Effects of Extracts and Constituents from Euonymus alatus

To observe the hypoglycemic effects o f Euonymus alatus (Thunb.) Sieb and to determine its hypoglycemic effective extract. Normal mice and alloxan induced diabetic mice were used to observe the hypoglycemic effects.Ethyl acetate ex tract o f Euonymus alatus shows hypoglycemic effects. Four compounds were isolat ed from a ctive groups and they were identified as p hydroxybenzoic acid,(EA 1),pr otocatech uic acid (EA 2),4 hydroxy 3 methoxybenzoic acid,(EA 3) and 3,5 dimetho xy 4 hydr oxybenzoic acid,(EA 4). The fasting serum gl ucose le vel in diabetic mice was reduced significantly, but similar effect on fasting se rum glucose level was not produced in normal mice.EA 1～EA 4 were firstly isolated from Euonymus alatus .
