Solid state synthesis, energy transfer and tunable luminescence of Ce3+/Mn2+ codoped Ba9Lu2Si6O24 phosphors

2019
Abstract A series of Ce 3+ and/or Mn 2+ doped Ba 9 Lu 2 Si 6 O 24 phosphors were prepared by the solid state reaction. The phase and luminescent properties of the synthesized phosphors were investigated. The single phase of the synthesized phosphors indicates that Ce 3+ /Mn 2+ ions doped into Ba 9 Lu 2 Si 6 O 24 hosts entirely and formed solid state compounds. Mn 2+ ions substitute Lu 3+ sites in Ba 9 Lu 2 Si 6 O 24 but Ce 3+ ions substitute both Lu 3+ and Ba 2+ sites in Ba 9 Lu 2 Si 6 O 24 . The emission bands of Ba 9 Lu 2 Si 6 O 24 :Ce 3+ phosphors show dependence on excitation wavelength and Ce 3+ concentration. Upon the excitation at 400 and 350 nm, Ba 9 Lu 2 Si 6 O 24 :Ce 3+ phosphors show emission bands peaking at 495 and 422 nm, respectively. Upon the excitation at 350 nm, Ba 9 Lu 2 Si 6 O 24 :Ce 3+ /Mn 2+ phosphors show emission bands corresponding to Ce 3+ and Mn 2+ ions. Due to energy transfer from Ce 3+ to Mn 2+ , tunable luminescence is obtained in Ba 9 Lu 2 Si 6 O 24 :Ce 3+ /Mn 2+ phosphors.
