Philippines: The Role of the Philippine Nurses Association in Disaster Preparedness and Response During Typhoon Haiyan

Considered as one of the deadliest tropical cyclones to have hit the Philippines and the strongest typhoon recorded at landfall, Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) swept across the Visayan region on November 8, 2013, leaving behind a devastation that mobilized national and international humanitarian efforts on a grand scale. This case study presents the role of the national nursing organization, Philippine Nurses Association, in mobilizing nurses to prepare and respond to the needs of the survivors and support communities to build back better.
