A New Class of High-Resolution Measurements of Arbitrary-Dispersion Fibers : Localization of Four-Photon Mixing Process

2009
A new technique for dispersion mapping of low dispersion fibers is reported. A counter-colliding pump-probe power transfer is used to achieve localized four-photon mixing at arbitrary waveguide locations. By controlling the position and strength of the counter-colliding interaction, the entire waveguide length is scanned to obtain high-resolution dispersion map. The new technique is used to demonstrate meter-scale dispersion retrieval in highly'nonlinear fibers for the first time.
