Topical Management of Cellulite
2010
Adipose tissue is vascular, leading to the theory that cellulite
may worsen in predisposed areas where circulation and lymphatic drainage have been decreased, possibly due to local injury
or in ammation. In response to impairment of microvascular circulation, there is increased microedema within the subcutaneous
fat layer, causing further stress on surrounding connective tissue bers and accentuation of skin irregularities [2,4]. Many of the
currently accepted cellulite therapies target de ciencies in lymphatic drainage and microvascular circulation. e lipids within
adipocytes are derived from plasma-circulating lipoproteins. In a
dynamic process, the stored fat is hydrolyzed and eliminated again
to the plasma as free fatty acids and glycerol. Various enzymes,
including insulin and cyclic AMP participate in this process. In
particular, triglyceride lipase is very important in the promotion
of lipolysis. is enzyme is activated by adenylyl cyclase stimulation by means of an antagonist e ect. is inhibitory process
causes triacylglycerol hydrolysis and releases free fatty acids and
glycerol into the interstitial space and plasma.
