Cell Engineering of the Rat and Human Cysteine Conjugate Beta Lyase Genes and Applications to Nephrotoxicity Assessment

1999
Halogenated alkenes such as hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) are initially metabolised by glutathione conjugation, subsequent metabolic processing of which yields the cysteine conjugate. This cysteine conjugate subsequently serves as a substrate for the kidney en zyme cysteine conjugate beta lyase (CCBL), which is responsible for the production of nephrotoxic thiol metabolites.
