Phase bunching in a charged-particle beam during trapping into the accelerating phase in the joint nuclear research institute proton synchrotron

A method of increasing trapping is presented in which a preliminary application of the high-frequency accelerating field is used. The frequency of the accelerating field is changed in accordance with the law of orbit change in the `quasi-betatron' regime. The accuracy and possible errors in realizing the method are evaluated and experimental results are given.
