2008
Objective To understand the status of knowledge, attitude and behavior about AIDS among medical students, and to provide basis for further health education. Methods An administered questionnaire survey, with the contents of AIDS knowledge, attitude and practice, was conducted among 1451 medical college students from Grade One to Four anonymously. Results A total of 1451 students were investigated. 95.0% of them knew three transmission routes of HIV. 57.6% of them believed that mosquito bite could transmit HIV, and the rate of recognition about other non-transmission routes was over 85.0%. About 78.0% of them knew that condom use could prevent HIV. 56.0% of them responded that they would like to help and care people with HIV/AIDS. The major routes of acquiring the knowledge about HIV/AIDS were though TV, journals, newspapers and school education. 76 (5.2%) of 1451 students had sex in the past. The rate of condom use was very low. The reasons that they did not use condoms were that they were not willing to do so, and thought it unnecessary to use condoms for sex. Conclusion It is necessary to strengthen health education on HIV/AIDS, arrange the special course in the curriculum and conduct various activities of HIV/AIDS publicity, and improve the knowledge of AIDS and reduce risk behaviors in order to curb AIDS epidemic among the youth.
