High-temperature fuel cell stack and its production

2008
The invention relates to a seal assembly for use in a high-temperature fuel cell comprising a sealing base material and a coating of silver, gold, platinum or palladium. The sealing base material advantageously consists of a ferritic chromium steel, such as is otherwise used in high temperature fuel cells, such as from Crofer22APU, Crofer22H, ITM, ZMG232, RA446, as well as variations and modifications. The coating is advantageously present in a layer thickness between 1 and 100 .mu.m, in particular in a layer thickness between 5 and 20 microns. By this only micrometers thick coating ensures that the "effective" thermal expansion coefficient of the entire sealing assembly is very similar to the sealing base material. In this way, the thermal expansion coefficient is quite contradictory to the coating, which usually do not match the thermal expansion coefficients of the parts to be joined. Flaking of the coating from the seal base material or the occurrence of relative movements can thus be largely prevented. The seal assembly has an effective coefficient of thermal expansion between 11 x 10 The inventive method for producing the above seal assembly comprising the steps of: preparing the shape of the seal from ...
