Biology of a Problematic Marine Fungus, Dermocystidium Sp. II. Nutrition and Respiration

1969
Dermocystidium sp. grows best at 19 C, at pH 7.3, and with 1-3% NaCl. Although potassium, calcium, and magnesium are needed for growth they do not replace sodium nor does zinc replace the requirement for magnesium. Glucose and mannose are optimal sources of carbon, and glutamate is best as the source of nitrogen. B1 and Bi2 are needed. Cells deprived of carbon sources for seven days demonstrate vigorous respiration when subsequently supplied with glucose.
