Nonlinear optical waveguides with rutile TiO2
2011
We investigated a possibility of making rutile TiO 2 channel waveguides for nonlinear optical applications. Single mode
conditions, the group velocity dispersion and the nonlinear-optical parameters for the rutile TiO 2 channel waveguides
were calculated using the finite-element method. We also fabricate channel waveguides with rutile TiO 2 using reactive
ion etching. The propagation loss measured by the cut-back method was around 6 dB/mm. According to our simulation,
around 70 nm of spectral broadening owing to the self-phase modulation will be expected by a pumping optical pulse
with 360 W peak power.
