New glycine and alanine thioesters of the formula wherein R1 and R2 each represent C1-C4-alkoxy or halogen, R3 represents hydrogen, C1-C3-alkyl or halogen, R4 represents hydrogen or methyl, R5 represents methyl or ethyl, R6 represents hydrogen, C1-C6-alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by cyano or thiocyano, C2-C4-alkyl which is substituted by halogen, C2-C5-alkenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, C2-C4-alkynyl or C3-C7-cycloalkyl, and X represents with the proviso that the total number of carbon atoms contained by the groups R1, R2, R3 and R4 does not exceed 8.
