New Experimental Constraint on an Exotic Spin-dependent Interaction

2017
We present experimental results to probe an exotic spin-dependent interaction for polarized electrons. The experiment employs a spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) magnetometer, as both a source of 100 % polarized electrons and a detector. In this experimental approach, an interaction between the SERF polarized electrons and unpolarized atoms of a solid-state mass was studied. We report a first experimental constraint on the interaction in the interaction range below 1 cm.
