Effect of the inhibition of free radical reactions in viscous media in the presence of polyarylene methylenes

1979
Abstract The effect of medium viscosity on the reactivity of polyarylene methylenes in free radical reactions was confirmed experimentally. In initiated polymerization of methyl methacrylate containing small amounts of PMMA in the viscosity range of 0·7–32 cS polyarylene methylene additives have an inhibiting effect on the process, whereas without polymer additives polyarylene methylenes do not have such an effect. A similar pattern is also observed during initiated oxidation of cumene containing PMMA additives in the viscosity range of 0·7–cS.
