A chronology of opera performances at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, 1860-1917

2009
Compiled by an Anglo-Russian research team over a four-year period, this chronology draws on contemporary records in the archives of the Mariinsky, the newspaper archives in the Russian National Library and material held in the St Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music. The vast majority of this material has never appeared in English-translation prior to the current publication. This is a unique work of international scholarship which provides the reader with full creative and production details of every opera performance staged at the legendary Mariinsky Theatre, the leading opera house in the Russian Imperial capital, between it's opening in 1860, and the 1917 Revolution. This publication will allow scholars, researchers, theatre historians and opera enthusiasts, to trace the careers of many of the most prominent and influential Russian operatic performers of their day: uniquely, details of the production team (director, designer, costumier, prop maker and painter) are also included for every production.
