Abstract 14329: Outcomes After the Comprehensive Stage 2 Procedure

2017
Introduction: Comprehensive Stage 2 procedure (CS2) is the second surgical operation for patients with single ventricle physiology that initially underwent the Hybrid Stage 1 procedure. Goal of this study was to describe CS2 outcomes and determine if there were differences between survivors of CS2 (s-CS2) versus non-survivors of CS2 (nons-CS2). Methods: Data from all patients undergoing an index CS2 procedure between 2010 - 2016 from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Congenital Heart Surgery Database (STS-CHSD) were evaluated. Pre-operative, operative, and post-operative data were analyzed, stratified by operative mortality (in-hospital, or within 30 days of surgery), with univariate comparisons using a chi-square or Wilcoxon rank sum test or Fisher exact test. Results: Total of 209 patients (49 centers) met inclusion criteria of which 141 patients had the diagnosis of hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Overall operative mortality was 12.4% (26/209). S-CS2 had a lower prevalence of preoperative ECMO us...
