Concepts of the Terms Susceptibility and Resistance as They Relate to Hearing Damage Due to Noise

Abstract : The author's definition of susceptibility and resistance is formulated on the basis of correlation between the injuring factor (noxa) and its effect by means of the probability that is expressed as the difference between the expected value given by the regression line and real value of the hearing loss. This defines susceptibility and, similarly, resistance as the probability of a given loss with the presumption of the average reactivity of the given person. Examples of application of such an evaluation of receptivity are shown.
