Concentric Structural Zones and Lithology of Distributed Impact Rocks

2019
Concentric structural zones of the Popigai impact crater are represented by (1) an external terrace-like zone with centrifugal deformations of the sedimentary cover (overthrusts, upthrow faults) where in places the ejecta of allogenic impact breccias and impactites have been preserved; (2) Annular trough adjoining to this terrace and filled in with a thick sequence of the same rocks. The trough passes into peak ring of about 45 km in diameter where fractured gneisses of the structure bottom appear; (3) Central depression filling with allogenic impact breccias and impactites. The structure and composition of rocks within these zones are described in detail inferred from geological observations and study of the core of numerous wells with a depth up to 1.5 km.
