Decomposition and the determination of fluorine in biological materials.

THERE is considerable discrepancy in the published fluorine contents of some biological specimens1–6 which can be at least partially attributed to shortcomings in standard decomposition techniques. We submitted a series of organofluorine compounds both to conventional decomposition1–7 and to decomposition by pyrohydrolysis8,9; typical results are shown in Table 1a.
