Biocompatibility of materials in a new generation of endoprostheses for total hip joint arthroplasty

2010
The article shows that aseptic loosening of implant components after hip joint replacements is a principal cause of complications because of insufficient biocompatibility of the component materials. It is possible to expect a higher efficacy of using an endoprosthesis after an improvement of the design for reducing tension in the bone tissue, bringing the biomechanical properties of the implant closer to those of the bone, and increasing the material biocompatibility. Principally new ways are suggested for applying biocompatible materials in endoprosthesis designs.
