Energy-efficient Multicast Screen Mirroring for QoS Support over WiFi Network

2016
In this work, we propose an energy-efficient multicast screen mirroring system for sharing high-quality real-time multimedia content with adjacent mobile devices over WiFi network. The proposed system adopts Raptor codes based WiFi overhearing multicast transmission scheme to support reliable transmission with high transmission rate. To save energy consumption of mobile devices, the proposed system not only performs traffic shaping, but also adjusts Raptor encoding parameters such as the number of source symbols, symbol size, and code rate while considering the Raptor encoding/decoding energy consumption and processing time. The proposed system is fully implemented on single board computers and tested in the real WiFi network. Compared to existing systems, the proposed system can provide high-quality screen mirroring service with good energy efficiency.
