Adaptation of Dengue Virus to the Hamster

1952
Summary By serial intracerebral passages, the New Guinea C and Hawaiian strains of dengue virus were adapted to growth in hamsters of 2–5 days of age. Dengue virus should no longer be described, without qualification, as non-pathogenic for the hamster. Additional data are presented showing that the New Guinea C and Hawaiian strains represent 2 different immunologic types of dengue virus.
