Dominant Lethal Effect of Sulfur Dioxide Derrivatives on Mice

2006
Dominant lethal effect of sulfur dioxide(SO_(2)) derivatives on mice was studied when male mice were exposed to SO_(2) derivatives(a mixture of sodium sulfite and sodium bisulfite,c : c = 3 : 1) by i.p.injection.The results showed that(1) the pregnant rate of female mice was decreased and the dominant lethal rate was increased in a dose-dependent manner when the male mice exposed to SO_(2) derivatives were made mating with female mice;(2) the embryonic development was retarded and the mean body weight of living fetus was decreased by the paternal mice exposed to SO_(2) derivatives in a dose-dependent manner. These results lead to a conclusion that SO_(2) and its derivatives had reproductive toxicity to male mice.Further study is needed to understand reproductive toxicity of SO_(2) and its derivatives to human being.Tab 2,Ref 14
