Slope Stability Analysis of Hattihole and Kandanakolli regions using GEOSTUDIO 2018 Slope/W software

2020
Kodagu district received the highest ever rainfall in the month of August 2018 outstanding an 87 year old record. In 1931 that the district expected 1559mm rain throughout the whole month of August. However, in the first three weeks of August 2018 alone the district received a total rainfall of 1675mm (till August 21 2018).The regions like Monnangeri, Jodupala, Hattihole and Kandanakolli severly affected by huge amount of landslides and it leads to the loss of anormous amount of public and private properties. The current study focused on finding out the stability of landslided slopes of Hattihole and Kandanakolli region. The soil samples are collected from the affected areas and basic geotechnical properties were carriedout. The results of the test are then used in GEOSTUDIO 2018 software and the Factor of Safety of the affected slopes were found. The outcomes showed that the FOS of Hattihole region was found to be 1.171 and 0.855 for Kandanakolli region which was within the high risk level. Also, the study found  that affect of liquifaction was the major factor for the failure of slopes in most of the regions of Kodagu District.
