Development of A Generic Microfluidic System for Electrochemical Immunoassay-Based Remote Bio/Chemical Sensors

1998
This paper describes the development of a generic microfluidic system directed toward realizing electrochemical immunoassay-based bio/chemical detection system, specifically focusing on MEMS-based microfluidic devices and systems. The microfluidic system consists of two fluidic paths, one for sampling and one for detection. A magnetic bio-bead approach has been adopted for both sampling and manipulating the target biological molecules. Several new MEMS-based microfluidic and bio-sensing devices have been developed for the system. In this paper, the preliminary fluidic and biochemical experiment results of the realized devices such as microvalves, micropumps, flow sensors, filterless bioseparators, and on-chip immunosensors are presented.
