Effect and Mechanism of Shenqi Mixture on CNE Cell Apoptosis of Nasopharyngeal Cancer

Objective To investigate the effect of Shenqi Mixture(Mixture of Radix Codonopsis and Fructus Lycii)on CNE cell apoptosis and metastasis of nasopharyngeal cancer to study its mechanism for human tumor cells.Methods The methyl thiazolyl terrazolium(MTT)was applied to calculate the tumor inhibition rate.The agarose gel electrophoresis was adopted to observe the DNA band formed by apoptosis cells.The flow cytometry(FCM)was employed to test the Fas expression.The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)was used to determine the effect of Shenqi Mixture on the expression of caspase-3.Results Shenqi Mixture could directly kill CNE cells.The apoptosis band was seen in the agarose gel electrophoresis.The increased expression of Fas and caspase-3 was observed.Conclusion Shenqi Mixture can induce the cell apoptosis of human nasopharyngeal cancer possibly through the Fas/FasL pathway.
