A Fast Method of Cattle Brucellosis Diagnosis (Uskorennyi Metod Diagnostiki Brutselleza Krupnogo Rogatogo Skota)

1970
Abstract : As a supplement to RA (Agglutination reaction) and RSK (complement-fixation reaction), Soviet researchers have proposed a number of new and valuable methods of recognizing latent and active forms of brucellosis. The search for faster and simpler test methods, suitable for use on collective farms, state farms and in veterinary medicine installations has been of importance. A method of fast RA with a chromatic antigen for KR on filter paper was tested. This method, in essence is a modification of the Kheddl'son reaction, is very simple to carry out and consists of mixing equal drops of test serum and chromatic antigen on glass and immediately transferring one drop of the mixture to filter paper. After absorption, which has a maximum duration of 1-1.5 min., the reaction is analyzed. If the result is positive, the colorless part of the liquid spreads to the periphery of the filter paper and in its center is formed a dark blue spot. In the case of a dubious reaction the spot in the center is less intensively colored and bluish rays spread out from it. In negative cases a light blue drop spreads uniformly over the entire surface of the paper and the central part is less intensively colored.
