Design and Control of Grid Connected PV System for EV Charging Station using Multiport Converter

2021
Electric Vehicles (EVs) have become the alternative of internal combustion engines. However, EVs are in need of high-power fast charging station for reducing charging time. These, fast charging stations, induce a stress on the grid networks, during peak hours resulting in power quality issues such as power gap and voltage sag. The objective of this research is to find the simple hybrid power system configuration for EV fast charging to reduce the stress on the grid using matlab-simulink software. A comprehensive model of a PV with grid integrated EV charging station using multiport converter is proposed in this article. A closed loop control technique and power power-flow management is proposed to provide superior stabilisation, on voltage profile, peak power shaving and load balancing. The performance of the proposed multiport converter is designed and assessed using MATLAB Simulink.
