A new window on fullerene chemistry: an electrospray mass spectrometric study of the amination of C60

Polyamines derived from C 60 were characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry in 1:1 methanol toluene containing 2.5% trifluoroacetic acid. Peak assignments are consistent with the formula C 60 O n (RNH 2 ) m for the protonated products. The preferential formation of the hexaaminated product C 60 O 6 (RNH 2 ) 6 was also observed
