A general approach to the machine handling of event history data with special reference to employment histories.

This paper outlines an approach to the machine handling of event history information. Algorithms are presented that are capable of producing a wide variety of the indices generally needed in the analysis of event history material. These are based on a logical reduction of the variables derivable from event histories to a small number of elementary indicators....The issues are considered mainly in relation to work history data since the methods presented here were devised to process such data. .
