Preliminary Phytochemical Investigation of some Medicinal Plants of Western Ghats, The Nilgiris

The phytochemical analysis of six plants belonging to different families was performed. The medicinal plants investigated were Gaultheria fragrantissima, Strobilanthes foliosus, Rubus racemosus, Scheffelera racemosa, Potentilla indica, Hypericum patulum .The methanolic extract of all these plants which was obtained from cold maceration process were found to contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and terpenoids whereas, the extracts other than methanolic extract showed remarkable decrease in phytoconstituents.
