Usage of Homomorphic Encryption Algorithms in Process Control

2021
Safe and secure control is one of the most important parts of the industry in terms of process control. Basically, it represents two main aspects. First one is safe control, which means using the right control algorithm, thus using a properly designed controller, which ensures the closed-loop stability, therefore the stable operation of the process. The secure part is used to insure the secured communication between the process and the control unit. This paper is mainly focused on the secure part. We describe two types of cryptosystems, namely Paillier and Benaloh cryptosystem. For each we present the scheme describing how the cryptosystem works, mainly the encryption and decryption algorithms. These algorithms will be compared from the implementation point of view and their usage in real device control. The real device will be the Flexy 2.0, which is a simple device with quite fast dynamics. All the gained results are discussed in conclusion.
