A Remote-Reference-Free Parametric Method for Robust Magnetotelluric Impedance Tensor Estimation Evaluated at Several USArray Sites

We propose a practical and efficient parametric impedance tensor estimation method which determines an Output-Error (OE) based mathematical model based on system identification. In this study, we comprehensively analyze MT impedance tensor estimates to validate the robustness and potential of the parametric method when applied to USArray MT sites with different data quality. The results demonstrate obvious improvement in bias correction of transfer impedance estimates without referencing another site and a best fit accuracy of 91% for validating geo-electric field predictions.
