Lyndiol novum a modern hormonal contraceptive

A test of a new oral contraceptive Lyndiol novum (50 mcg ethinyl estradiol and 2.5 mg lynestrenol) is reported. Group 1 (21 women) had not used contraceptives in the preceding 2 months and Group 2 (28 women) had been using oral contraceptives immediately before using Lyndiol novum. The dosage was 1 tablet for 22 days and no pill for 6 days. There were no pregnancies. 11 women experienced bleeding irregularities. The length of menstruation and the volume of menstrual bleeding decreased in both groups. Dysmenorrhea disappeared in 3 patients. There was no weight gain. 13 patients experienced migrane-type headaches. There were no cytologic or blood pressure changes. 11 women experienced tenderness of the breasts. 9 patients experienced psychical disturbances. After 1 year 40 women were still using the preparation.
