Thermal properties of poly(vinilidene fluoride) in the temperature range from 25 to 210 °C

Abstract Thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat, namely the thermal properties, are the three most important physical properties of a material that are needed for heat transfer calculations. Nowadays, several different techniques for the determination of the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity may be found in the literature. Recently, transient techniques have become the preferable way for measuring thermal properties of materials. In this work, the laser flash technique was employed in the experimental determination of the thermal diffusivity of the PVDF. Specific heat determined by modulated differential scanning calorimetry, and bulk density determined by ethanol picnometry were also experimental tasks in this work. Thermal conductivity was then derived from these properties previously determined. Measurements were carried out in the temperature range from 25 to 210 °C, including during the melting process.
